I am Nguyễn Văn Thanh Phong, currently working in the tattoo industry at Torch Ink. Before entering the world of tattooing, I was a chef and a delivery worker, balancing work and studies. I went through many hardships, and deciding to leave all those jobs to focus on developing my tattooing career was a tough choice that took me a long time to make. After a period of exploring, learning, and gaining knowledge, with the guidance of my mentor, Nguyễn Phú Cường, and the support of all my brothers at the studio, I’ve grown into the artist I am today. That was a significant milestone in my career.
The tattoo styles I’ve pursued include Blackwork, Ornamental, Mini, and Old School. In 2023, I created many large-scale works.
Moving forward, I aim to further develop my tattooing style and participate in competitions within Vietnam, my homeland. I am Thanh Phong Art.
I focus on bold, solid black designs, what we call Blackwork. Whether it’s a minimal shape or a complex composition, I always aim for strong contrast and clean execution with no gray tones involved.
Ornamental tattoos are where I get to dive deep into symmetry and detail. I love creating decorative, often geometric patterns that bring out a timeless beauty. Sometimes I draw influence from Maori and Mandala motifs to give the design more depth.
I also work with Mini tattoos, small in size but rich in meaning. These pieces are all about precision and subtlety, perfect for clients who want something personal and understated.
Old School style lets me tap into the bold lines and vivid colors of traditional Western tattooing. It’s loud, unapologetic, and full of character, just the way classic ink should be.
